Management Committee
JNathan Seng (President)
Nathan Seng has been involved with Canefields Clubhouse from its inception in 2000. Working as the Assistant Director for almost 8 years, he has completed the three week training in the ICCD clubhouse model of rehabilitation. At the end of 2008 Nathan commenced work with the Queensland Parliamentary Service. Nathan joined the Management Committee of Canefields Clubhouse in March 2009 as the elected President of the association. Nathan brings a wealth of experience in the clubhouse model to this position.
Nathan's experience also includes working with ex-prisoners and working in the Department of Families and Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. Nathan has qualifications in Community and Human Services and Community Services Management and is currently completing a Social Policy degree. He is also the current President of another community organisation in the Beenleigh community.
Nathan has attended and participated in presentations at the past 5 Australasian Clubhouse Conferences. Nathan currently chairs the working group to form an Australian Coalition of Clubhouses. Nathan's significant knowledge of the clubhouse model shows in his passion for the human rights of people living with mental illness.
Steven Veltmeyer (Vice President)
Steven Veltmeyer has been an advocate for people with a mental illness since his school days when he was heavily involved with co – curricular activities at his school Villanova College, Coorparoo. After finishing school, Steven then went on to study Human Sciences, before heading off to adventures in Europe where he was an English Tutor for 12 months.
On his return to Australia, Steven started his company PCSOL where he started servicing Canefields Clubhouse where he is a huge contributor to the Clubhouse, as a highly trained computer expert. Steven helps train members in computer skills and helps maintain all our computers. It is an extreme honour to have him on the management committee for the last few years.
Bryan Fulcher (Secretary)
Bryan has been a member of Management Committee since 2003. Starting off as a Committee Member he then went on to become the President for 2 years and then the Secretary up until the present day. Bryan has shown his loyalty and dedication to the Clubhouse over the last 5 years through our Clubhouse Functions, Fundraising, and general Work Ordered Day. Bryan has qualifications in mechanical engineering, Business management, Computer Technologies, Project Management and ISO 9000 Quality assured auditor. Bryan has been a Business Owner since 1995 as a Specialist Vertical Transportation Engineering Consulting Brisbane, Gold Coast, Queensland, Victoria, Australia Wide, New Zealand & International. Bryan has also been a part of many community groups including International Association of Elevator Engineers, Lift Engineering Society Australia, QUT Alumni, a Lecturer at QUT, Property Council of Australia, Australian Institute of Management, Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Hope Island Inc, Rotary Club of Beenleigh Inc, Community Care Beenleigh Districts Inc, Beenleigh District Development Association.
Richard Green (Treasurer)
Richard spent nearly 40 years in the Corporate Information Technology business. For the first 14 years of his career, Richard was employed by various companies predominately manufacturing companies both in Australia and New Zealand designing, programming and implementing various applications. On returning to Australia in 1969, he joined IBM and spent the next 25 years in various positions within that organisation. In the early 70's he designed and project managed the development of the first four modules of an application package for the manufacturing companies that the US parent company released world wide. Richard was then assigned to the US parent company to design and project manages the remaining modules of the package. During this time he also consulted too many large corporations including IBM on the implementation of manufacturing control systems. On his return to Australia, Richard marketed Information Technology Systems to the manufacturing industries. He established and managed the IBM Computer Integrated Manufacturing Centre responsible for industry education and support across Australia. Richard has developed industry education courses and taught classes in Australia, USA and England. He has consulted to a large range of companies and has been a guest speaker at a number of industry conferences. Since retiring from the Information Technology business, Richard established a charter boat business which was sold after 6 years and then established a promotional products and consulting business which he still operates to day.
Margaret McIvoy (Management Committee Member)
Margaret has been an avid supporter and promoter of Canefields Clubhouse for the past 8 years. Margaret lives in the local community and has participated in numerous community events over the years. She continues to donate generously to the clubhouse her time, as well as food and housing equipment. Margaret continues to participated in functions and fundraising endeavours of the clubhouse. Margaret is a kind and generous woman who has worked as a nurse and also with children and then continued on to work for in a medical field.
Jun-Seok Song (Management Committee Member)
Song has a strong mental health and Clubhouse background, originating in Korea where he worked as a Social Worker for Taiwha Fountain House, a training base. Song developed Transitional Employment placements for members and established a social enterprise. More recently, Song has experience working at Transcultural Mental Health, and has been working as a Technician for Greenbox Systems. Song has volunteered his time at both Canefields Clubhouse, and Stepping Stone Clubhouse. No doubt his enthusiasm and knowledge will be invaluable to Canefields.
Faye Westlake (Member)
Faye has been a member of Canefields for five years and in that time has grown and achieved things she wouldn't have thought possible five years ago. While at clubhouse Faye has taken part in numerous in house trainings such as Computer courses, car maintenance and first aid. Faye has attended and participated in presentations at the 2006 Australasian Clubhouse Conference in New Zealand and the 2008 Australasian Clubhouse Conference in Sydney. Faye has Contributed to all activities in the Clubhouse including art shows, fundraising and social events. Faye has a very strong understanding of the ICCD Standards and the Clubhouse model of psycho social rehabilitation. Faye enjoys helping new members find their place at Clubhouse. She also loves reading, as she says it takes her all round the world.She also watches a lot of sports from the comfort of her armchair and she believes it to be too strenuous to actually do it.
Susan Strichen (Member)
I have been a member of Canefields Clubhouse for coming up 4 years. During that time I have been able to work in supported employment in the mental health sector for almost 2 years now. Being a part of Canefields has helped to give me the confidence and courage to bring my abilities forward. I was asked to be part of the 2010 International Conference, which was a wonderful once-in-a-lifetime experience. I also feel I have am able to help others at Canefields and in the wider community.
