Canefest Parade - Saturday 24th May
Beenleigh’s Cane Festival Parade was on the 24th of May, and Canefields Clubhouse got to be a part of the action. After all, we did miss the parade last year, because we were settling down in our new clubhouse, but nothing was to stop us this year! We all met around 10am to get everything ready. Then we went down to Beenleigh Showgrounds to cover the van with banners ready for the parade. Then the parade was underway. Some of us sat in the van organizing brochures to hand out, while others walked the paraded following behind the van. Some walked the parade handing out lollies and brochures and others walked proudly behind the van carrying signs that said great slogans like ‘Mental Illness affects 1 in 5 Aussies’, ‘Open Your Mind’ and ‘No Health Without Mental Health’. It was great to be in the parade and promote our Clubhouse and Mental Health and all the on-lookers supported and cheered us on. After we finished the parade, we enjoyed a nice sausage sizzle in the sun.

Wayne bought a cute elephant Faye some jeans and by lunchtime we all met at the Chinese food outlet for some well earned sustenance and to give our feet a rest .After lunch (the weather was gorgeous) we walked around for a little bit longer and then called it a day. On the way home we went for a drive through Surfers Paradise and saw all the new high rise buildings that block out the sun to the streets below. Everyone it seemed had a good day out and maybe next time we’ll go to Pacific Fair, so start saving those dollars.
